Styling: Summer Style Tips to Try
I know we all love a summer moment for fashion - less layering, breezy styles, and seemingly easy choices. White and more white! These have been endlessly discussed, so I thought it might be helpful to cover what I personally enjoy as someone with limited closet space and what I see daily on the streets of Paris. Women here generally have smaller spaces and less storage to be possessing four distinct seasons of clothing. The wardrobe here needs to be worn multiple ways and for longer than a month or two. I hope these spring and summer options for styling help your packing lists for Paris (and Europe!) this summer.
WHAT ABOUT BURGUNDY?
A color long since associated with fall, fireplace moments, and holiday velvets, burgundy (wine, maroon, whatever you feel like calling it!) is so much more than that. I think it is easily a year-round hue, so let’s explore how to incorporate it into a spring and summer wardrobe with ease.
This should be a no-brainer, but try out a burgundy handbag or shoe to pop your white denim or cream trousers - feels a little more intentional than traditional black or brown and such a lovely bit of warmth. You can also utilize a scarf with burgundy detailing or the base to enjoy this color!

This borders on plum, but it’s a little brighter in person - I just added this instead of black or to tone down a super summery-feeling eyelet when the temperatures are June-chilly.
DARK FLORALS
I love a dark based floral in clothing this time of year as it feels a little unexpected and fresh. The marketing around spring/summer florals = pastels and brightness is quite prevalent and frankly, designed to get us to buy more, when really pieces you already have are more than adequate to move through the seasons. Fabrication is obviously key; I would suggest thinner cottons and silks that could be worn alone now or layered when the weather turns.

VELVET
Sounds crazy, I know. But after several spring and summers here and noticing just how prevalent velvet still was in these seasons, I thought about how cool it is. Velvet throw pillows in people’s homes, a comfy flat, a clutch - these don’t magically get replaced because it’s warmer outside. I’ve seen cool black velvet vests worn as tops at night, velvet slippers at all hours of the day and mustard velvet pouches carried with essentials.
