Styling: Winter Touches

Despite the obvious burden that is thinking about your outfit when it’s super cold outside, I find it fun to incorporate fabrics and details that can be winter-specific! Read: the softest fur to cozy up to…. Here are a few ways to jazz up the grey days ahead.

FUR

It’s the most obvious choice, but when done right it is the ultimate comfort + style winter option. I prefer only vintage, real options as faux can potentially look and feel great but the bottom line is that they are just a blend of plastics. Secondhand genuine fur finds are plentiful and affordable both online and in person; the statement they can provide is one of true style and unique taste. Scour your local vintage shop or raid your great-aunt’s storage unit - bring them out to play! I’ve noticed firsthand French and Italian women of all ages and style tastes wear fur in the winter for all occasions; they are not meant to be babied in fur storage their whole lives.

A blue fox number my husband scored online for less than €400! Mink and sable are even more readily available than this and less expensive, even. Consider this than two other coats you don’t really wear or keep you super warm.

Fur detailing on this beautiful Bordeaux vintage YSL coat make it a new favorite in my closet. Another second hand score from my husband - found off season early last spring! It has a removable fur lining on the inside as well but the cotton outer and deep pockets make this a great “walking around” coat in any weather!

Love this new coat friend - the color is everything, too!

METALLIC

Always a crowd pleaser this time of year, a bit of shine can be bold or subtle - dealer’s choice! Matte sequins, a hint of silver in your tights or some unexpected jewelry can add pizazz to a holiday ensemble.

While I did sneak some red in there with my watch strap which makes my below point, I loved the sheen of these Wolford tights and the bit of drama from my silver long chain necklace.

A full sun photo just for a little contrast to the above shade - these metallic tights look even better in person!

A detail photo of the necklace and subtle sheen to my top - it’s a great layering piece to holiday ensembles. The blazer has leather trim at the cuffs and lapel - it’s always all about the details for me to make wardrobe staples different and fun.

COLOR POPS

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - a little color can really spice up the grey winter skies and in turn your outfit and mood. Red and green aren’t only for the short Christmas season, and royal purples and blues really have their moment in winter. Maybe it’s a coat or a knit or maybe you only feel comfortable using color in your socks or a scarf? Either way, embrace something a little fun with your blacks, browns, and navies!

I love my violet Jim coat from Sézane and it makes an appearance frequently in the cold months.

It doesn’t always need to be bold and bright, winter can be patterned and cool-toned!

Some of my favorite purple Hermès gloves - cashmere-lined and doing the MOST late one night during a surprise snowfall! I’m holding a midnight velvet little purse with intricate silver handle from Tom Ford for YSL circa 2004-ish.
